Moving from Android to iOS

I recently caved in and got an iPhone after years of being a non-conformist hater 😬. The biggest takeaway (other than popular ≠ inherently bad) was that many of the features I bought into Android for (like widgets, app-to-app content sharing) have been available in iOS for years. …

Hot takes on the same-old applications

It never ceases to amaze me how many times we can revisit and recreate the same basic concepts for organizing our digital lives and work. Each of the core tools we still use today still looks pretty similar — in terms of mental models — to those produced by Lotus…

Graffiti

I’ve always loved graffiti. It’s mesmerizing to look at; this language of (often repurposed) symbols and alien text of tags. It’s full of interesting contradictions. Cartoony and juvenile, but often gravely serious. Publicly accessible art, yet vandalism. Whenever Kash and I are visiting a city we head straight for the grungy, previously abandoned — and thus now trendy — areas to see the graffiti.

Music Discovery in 2016

Music plays a special role in my internet heart. Nearly all of the web technologies I learned from ages 10–22 were in service of finding, sharing and transporting music. I went to a talk put on by Mixcloud last week on music discovery that jogged my memory about how things…

Faking 3D Touch on Android

Your home screen is a hyper competitive platform. It’s not enough for app developers to have a place at the table. They need to reduce all friction between you and their app — more specifically, all of their app. When the app does many actions this is challenging. …
